Alexander Sergeyevich Taneyev, (1850 - 1918) was a composer who was also a Russian state official. A member of the aristocracy, Taneyev served 22 years as the head of the Imperial Majesty's Chancellery. His music is not well known outside of Russia, and his name is sometimes confused with that of his cousin, the composer Sergei Taneyev (1856 – 1915). Like his cousin, A.
