The Journey is the follow up to Leon Fleisher’s extraordinary Vanguard Classics release Two Hands.

Limited Edition slipcase release, includes separate interview disc with Bob Edwards and a free Vanguard Classics sampler!

Where Two Hands chronicled Fleisher’s triumphant return to performing two handed repertoire after 35 years, The Journey tells the rest of the story. The works performed on The Journey are the pieces of music that Fleisher was preparing to perform in solo recitals at the time that dystonia began to affect his performing career in the early 1960’s.

The Journey matches solo piano works rarely recorded, like Stravinsky’s Serenade in A, with the beautiful, melancholy touch that Leon Fleisher brings to popular works such as Chopin’s Berceuse and Beethoven’s Für Elise. And the technical ability of a great pianist meets the poetic touch of a master in Bach’s Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue and Mozart’s Sonata in E flat, K. 272.

“Wonderful… As ever, Fleisher is a poet of the keyboard with a firm command of structural elements. He brings out inner voices often neglected and shapes lines with uncommon cohesion and grace.”
--Don Rosenberg, Cleveland Plain Dealer

"Leon Fleisher: The Journey, from Vanguard Classics, offers renewed evidence that, at 78, the Baltimore-based keyboard artist keeps pushing back the twilight of his career to enjoy another gratifying day in the sun….it's hard to remember that the pianist still has any limitations left when you hear him in full swing…Like his much-acclaimed 2004 comeback CD on Vanguard Classics, Leon Fleisher: Two Hands, the sequel finds the artist not just in impressive technical control but in a mood that can only be called musically loving. His program contains works he performed in his early years but never got around to recording. It's well worth the wait." -- Tim Smith, Baltimore Sun

Also available - Two Hands - Bach, Chopin, Etc / Leon Fleisher
"I'm certain that Leon Fleisher is as proud of this release as the music world is thrilled to have this supreme musician playing two-handed repertoire again." - --Jed Distler, ClassicsToday.com
