Notes and Editorial Reviews

This sumptuous, all-Verdi programme is Anna Netrebko’s heartfelt birthday tribute to the master of Italian grand opera, with selections from Il Trovatore, Macbeth, I vespri siciliani, Don Carlo and Giovanna d’arco. Music of emotion, power and extraordinary drama – personally selected and performed by the best-selling soprano of the 21st century.

2013 marks Anna’s ten years as a solo performer, and ten years with Deutsche Grammophon. This campaign is as much about Anna’s incredible decade with her label as it is about this extraordinary new album. It’s THE soprano album of Giuseppe Verdi’s Anniversary Year. It’s the first solo album in over five years, from the best-selling soprano of the 21st century. Crowned “the Violetta of
Read more our age” (Financial Times), Netrebko is the undisputed superstar – “la prima donna assoluta” (New York Post) – of opera today. Netrebko lays claim to the tragic repertoire of Italian grand opera: “Already celebrated for her glamorous face and voice, the fiery Russian-born diva has developed into a great tragic performer.” (New York Post). A decade on from the award-winning Opera Arias, Anna reunites with specialist Verdi conductor Gianandrea Noseda to continue this extraordinary musical journey.

This deluxe version includes extended liner notes + narrative track list (synopses) + extended booklet photo section + bonus DVD “Anna Netrebko and DG – 10 Years Making Music.” Read less

Worrisome Beauty September 17, 2013 By Robert E. (New York, NY) See All My Reviews "While there are numerous thrilling moments and great beauty in some of the many arias presented on this recording, overall it left me concerned for Ms. Netrebko's vocal chords and her continued ability to tackle the heavier Verdi repertoire. However, this should not deter Ms. Netrebko's many fans from acquiring this album as there is indeed great vocal artistry on display that is not to be missed." Report Abuse
ABSOLUTELY FIRST CLASS September 17, 2013 By Roland C. (Mount Pleasant, SC) See All My Reviews "I found Anna by accident a number of years ago while driving down the highway listening to National Public Radio. Few people had heard of her at that time. Her talent had just recently been discovered as she was singing while scrubbing floors at the Marinsky Theater. The station played an aria sung by her which was so beautiful I almost drove off the road. I have yet to encounter any of her recordings that are anything less than exceptional. I love Anna."  Too poerful September 3, 2013 By Detlef Joerss (Mamaroneck, NY) See All My Reviews "Found her voice , specially in McBeth, harsh and overpowering. She one of my favorite sopranos but the 'DeLuxe Edition' is disappointing for me! Heard her much better inclduing singing Verdi." Report Abuse
