Notes and Editorial Reviews

The Verbier Festival, created by Martin T:son Engstroem in 1994, rapidly acquired a reputation for artistic excellence and is now considered to be among the major European music festivals. During a fortnight each July, the greatest stars of the classical music world come together against the magical backdrop of the Swiss Alps. The Verbier Festival gives musicians the opportunity to perform original programmes with fellow musicians they admire, but with whom they may never have performed before. These world première performances produce innovative and exciting results, as much for artists as for audiences.

Transcendental Playing January 25, 2013 By Brien Chomica (Winnipeg, MB) See All My Reviews "Mr. Lugansky is a brilliant musician who is also a pianist. He has championed much chamber music, of course; if you have found the Violin Sonatas (with Mr. Repin) abd the Cello Sonatas (with Mr. Knaziev), you already know this. This wonderful DVD of his Recital at Verbier is a luminous testimony to his superb solo work. -- Just a little point I would like to mention: Liszt used to exhort his students in the famous Master Classes not to stare at the keyboard when performing. And those of us who have worked at the piano know that when the music score is on the ledge, we stare at it all the time and never look down; and yet when the music score is removed and we play from memory, we stare at our hands!Mr. Lugansky does not fall into this trap. And this is one of the reasons why he looks so confident and comfortable in recital. -- I can also add that he is a very handsome youngman, which tops up the whole DVD experience. -- Go for it!"
