Wonderful CDMarch 31, 2015By Gerald Larvey See All My Reviews"I gave this CD to friends my wife and I were visiting as a Thank You gift. They raved about the music and the playing and we all listened to it twice during the week we were there. I have subsequently purchased the digital version for myself and find it to be enjoyable listening, entertaining and at times sublime."Report Abuse
A Personal Testament from a Fine GuitaristMay 23, 2014By Dean Frey See All My Reviews"Im a big fan of guitarist Jason Vieaux, especially his recordings of South American composers and Bach. His new CD is really outstanding, so much more than just a collection of encore pieces. In his fine liner notes Vieaux shows a personal connection to each piece. He explains how particular composers and performers have helped him perfect his own art as a guitarist. My favourite pieces in this collection include Tom Jobims Felicidade arranged by Roland Dyens, the Ponce version of the classic Mexican tune Por Ti Mi Corazon, and Vieauxs own arrangement of Duke Ellingtons In a Sentimental Mood. The Ellington piece is cleverly designed for solo guitar, and Vieaux provides the proper amount of swing as well as the requisite elegance. I enjoyed listening to this track along with Dukes own recordings while I read Terry Teachouts excellent new biography Duke: A Life of Duke Ellington."Report Abuse
Very Nice VieauxApril 2, 2014By Due Fuss See All My Reviews"Very solid all-around performance here by Jason Vieaux. He provides a wide-ranging program of arrangements, guitar staples, and works by contemporary composers such as Leo Brouwer. It is unfair to judge a record by a different set aesthetic criteria than is intended by performer, but since my interests lean more toward the acerbic avant garde (not exclusively), I would have appreciated perhaps some works by composers less steeped in maintaining traditions. This is of course a subjective value judgment, and I cannot fault Vieaux for his own choices and aesthetic goals. That said, Vieaux offers a great recital with skilled and sensitive playing. The recordings sounds warm and clear with nice balance."Report Abuse
