EMI is marketing its Debut series as "focusing on artists on the brink of major careers." Since the label does not reveal criterion or sources, one wonders where EMI finds the talent; but, certainly, simply appearing on such a vaunted label amounts to self-fulfilling prophesy as far as this "brink of major career" business is concerned.

The Korean born, Juilliard-trained pianist HaeSun Paik deserves the special designation. Her playing, tonally sumptuous and broadly paced, unfolds with a natural pulse. Her musical personality is almost old-fashioned, with a gentle, poetically integrated rubato and a pearly tonal finish.
