Notes and Editorial Reviews

If it's magnificence you want, I can't imagine better value for money than this. This superb instrument, created by a transplanted Englishman, G. Donald Harrison, is reputedly the finest in America, and G.D.H. was the first to agree with this. In the CD version you miss nothing. John Longhurst is too good a musician to give a guided tour of the organ at the expense of the music, but his programme is laid out to provide a wide variety of tone qualities, and his performances are exemplary. For all its size, the instrument is not overpowering, but it makes a glorious sound.
