Notes and Editorial Reviews

Strauss' dazzling opera Der Rosenkavalier is set in 1740's Vienna. This opulent production by Oscar©-winning film director John Schlesinger (Midnight Cowboy) marked the 25th anniversary of Sir Georg Solti's spectacular debut at Covent Garden, conducting this very opera. It also features Kiri Te Kanawa's first performance in London of the role of Marschallin, which "deserves to be ranked among her finest achievements" (International Herald Tribune). Performed at the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden, with Sir Georg Solti conducting the Royal Opera Chrous and Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. Also starring Anne Howells, Aage Haugland, Barbara Bonney. Sung in German, with subtitles available in English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese. Read more Full Screen 4:3, Dolby Digital Stereo.
