A RARE TREASURE! November 24, 2013 By Floyd S Watson (Escondido, CA) See All My Reviews "Years ago I had this LP when it was re-released on Angel Records, I would say in the late 1970's. I wore out several copies being a Schwarzkopf fan through and through. I all but forgot about this record as CD's came out, and time slipped through my fingers. In getting ready for this year's holiday season, I looked on Archiv's web-site and there was a copy of "The Christmas Album" redone by Archiv. I ordered it immediately and it is an even dearer recording with age. If for nothing else, her version of "Stille Nacht," with the Ambrosian Singers, will bring a tear to the eye. There are other treasures on this recording such as Franck's "Panis Angelicus," and other traditional carols. With the Ambrosian singers, orchestra conducted by Charles Mackerras, organ, bells, etc., and the incomparable Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, you've got one of the best vintage Christmas albums you'll ever own. This is a must have, in my book! The fidelity is also amazing considering this was originally recorded in 1957!" Report Abuse
