Saimir Pirgu, only a few years ago nobody knew this exotic sounding name. Now all that has changed. Saimir Pirgu has already sung in Rome, Madrid, Bilbao and Valencia, Zurich, Berlin,Read more Cologne, Hamburg and Munich, as well as the Vienna State Opera and the Salzburg Festival and other engagements in New York and London are coming up. In 2010 he will play Alfredo in La Traviata at the Coven Garden.
Rarely do we come across cases of how much all other singers fit really in their roles as in this work.
The stage is set very modern and although it makes you think of a timeless setting, the costumes give hint about the link to Paris at the time when the libretto had been written.

Pleasant SurpriseApril 11, 2013By Robert Elden (New York, NY)See All My Reviews"I've not had any previous awareness of the vocal artists performing on this well produced DVD; nor was I familiar with the conductor or the opera company itself. So, I was pleasantly surprised by their collective singing and the production overall. I was particularly interested in hearing the tenor, Saimir Pirgu, as I had heard good things about him. I was not disappointed. Mr. Pirgu truly has the goods and should be headed for a major singing career. Curiously, shortly after I received and listened to/watched this DVD, Mr. Pirgu appeared in the same role on the Saturday matinee broadcst performance of the Metropolitan Opera. Again, he did not disappoint."Report Abuse
