Notes and Editorial Reviews

The Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra is conducted by Kurt Masur in their first-ever recording of all four Brahms symphonies, from the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in 1991. Kurt Masur also gives an in-depth interview prior to each symphony, both thought-provoking and stimulating, in which he talks about his family background and his long association with this world-famous orchestra, having studied, like many members of the orchestra, at the Leipzig Conservatoire. This program contains 2 DVDs.

Brahms Symphonies February 24, 2016 By Sylvia Romero (San Jose, CA) See All My Reviews "I am returning both CD's. I get a message "Check CD." This is on both CD's. I am disappointed, as Brahms Symphonies were my introduction to Brahms. These CD's are being returned." Report Abuse
The Great Masur January 20, 2016 By Rick B. (Enfield, CT) See All My Reviews "Living behind the so called Iron Curtain, Kurt Masur lived an extraordinary life. This video of the four Brahms symphonies is a great masterpiece of his legendary life. Filmed in 1991 by the BBC in Glasgow Royal Symphony Hall, Scotland it is a live production that may contain visual drawbacks but this does not hinder the music. Masur is great with the Brahms tempos, never to slow or fast. The color and balance is very well done for the audio that uses only 2-3 microphones. This is a real classic that will remain a special inheritance in the discography of the Masur legend." Report Abuse
