Notes and Editorial Reviews

Specially arranged for the Canadian Brass by members Chris Coletti and Brandon Ridenour, Schumann’s monumental keyboard works are given breathtaking, and reverential, performances. Carnaval once again displays the ability of the Canadian Brass to adapt uniquely virtuosic works to their own unique virtuosic skills – the result being a fresh, rewarding, and entirely legitimate interpretation of a masterwork.

"These arrangements preserve the musical heart of the work – not just the melodies, rhythms and harmonies, but character and mood – while adding colors that the piano, even in the hands of the greatest virtuoso, can only hint at." -- Chuck Daellenbach, founding member of the Canadian Brass

Carnaval CD from the Canadian Brass August 6, 2013 By C. Leung (Scarborough, ON) See All My Reviews "Superb technique but musically not as intersting as previous recordings." Report Abuse
Intricate, fancifal playing of great piano works July 24, 2013 By Richard S. (Champaign, IL) See All My Reviews "The Canadian Brass have transcribed and played these great piano works and Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance". I hope they will do more of this because both performances were interesting and beautiful. It helps to be familiar with Carnaval and Scenes from Childhood as played on the piano in order to really enjoy this CD, judging from my brother's lack of enthusiasm about the CD, apparently since he was unfamiliar with the selections. This CD is well worth the money. I really wish the CB would make more DVDs however, since it's more fun to watch them play than just to listen to them. I would highly recommend this CD to brass ensemble lovers and to Chopin lovers." Report Abuse
