Notes and Editorial Reviews

[W]hen I first learned that Sony had planned a Juilliard Fiftieth Birthday release, I immediately thought of all the goodies that might be en route... However, what actually emerged was a fascinating but frustrating series that serves merely to sample the work of an ensemble who Sony themselves describe — in November's Gramophone (page 107), and with ample justification — as "one of the greatest quartets in history".

...Best of all is Vol. 5, which covers famous collaborations with Rudolf Firkuny (Dvorák's Piano Quintet), Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau (Barber's Dover Beach), Walter Trampler and Yo-Yo Ma (Schoenberg's Verklärte Nacht), Leonard Bernstein (Schumann's Piano Quintet), Aaron Copland (his Sextet)
