Why did it take so long for the CD December 4, 2014 By Bruce G. See All My Reviews "Back before there were CDs I had a collection of several hundred LPs. One of my favorites was the recording of Victor Herbert music. Some years ago I had looked extensively for a CD version of it, to no avail. More recently I looked on iTunes but found it not. Then decided to look again for a CD version and here it is. Obviously I think this is a recording to have. It's just such a lovely combination of composer/singer/conductor/arrangements. Bubbles is in fine form and Andre Kostelanetz with the London Symphony knows what he is doing. We tend to forget the several conductors like Kostelanetz of that era how were so enormously successful in presenting lighter fair with a symphonic touch. Anyway, since receiving this CD, I have enjoyed it several times, each time being reminded anew why I had held the LP in such high regard." Report Abuse
Champagne & Whipped Cream November 24, 2014 By J. Fitzgerald (San Francisco, CA) See All My Reviews "If you're looking for (listening for) high drama and profound depths, you'll want to look/listen for a different album. This is like the gourmet dessert table at a fancy buffet. Just some achingly beautiful music -- all champagne and whipped cream -- performed by a woman who was BORN to sing this stuff!" Report Abuse
One of the great recordings! October 22, 2014 By D. Leyava (Alexandria, VA) See All My Reviews "I owned the LP back in the 70's and often played it as background in a restaurant I managed/owned outside Chicago; my customers loved it! After relying on the LP for decades I finally found a used copy of the CD some years ago and snatched it up! I LOVE these performances - Ms. Sills is at her best, sings with such warmth and affection (if also milking things a bit, as was her wont, and she's assisted in this by Kostelanetz), the orchestration is lush and inviting and suitable for these wonderful melodies of a time gone by! If you're at all inclined to operetta, or want to discover something new based on your love for Ms. Sills, don't pass this one up!!" Report Abuse
