Notes and Editorial Reviews
The Latvian choral tradition is admired worldwide, and the nation’s composers for these forces are writing overwhelmingly spiritual music—perhaps a reaction to the suppression of that material by the Soviets. But here the Latvian State Choir do the honour of turning to a British composer—albeit one who has immersed himself in the contemporary Baltic sound-world. Gabriel Jackson’s sumptuous choral textures and beautiful, yet individual, harmonic language respond thrillingly to the Latvian treatment.

Baltic Singing of Contemporary English Choral Mus February 28, 2013
By Herschel Anderson (Mesa, AZ) See All My Reviews
"This recording was my first introduction to the contemporary choral music of Gabriel Jackson. Six of its selections are the first recordings of each. When I first heard this recording, I felt a thrill in my heart and soul that indicated I was experiencing something both new and long lasting, i.e., music that choirs will be singing for many generations into the future. It is new in its melodies and harmonies but powerful in the way it creates a feeling of joy and elation in this listener. Part of the strength of this recording can only be the State Choir Latvija in Riga, which applies the long traditiion of choral singing found in the Baltic countries to this young Englishman's work. They do so magnificently. The quality of the recording also demonstrates the skill of local recording engineers in their many years of producing fine music from the Baltic Nations."
