Notes and Editorial Reviews
Six intermedii provided the musical framework for Girolamo Bargali's comedy La Pellegrina, a magnificent musical and dramatic spectacle that formed the main attraction at the lavish Medici wedding in 1589. Grand Duke Ferdinando I hired the most famous artists of the day, and the result was an exciting mixture of styles, where Renaissance elements are blended with features of early
opera. Hans-Martin Linde’s world première recording of 1973 was an unusual and much-discussed release when it first appeared in the Electrola Reflexe series, a true milestone in the Early Music discography.
