Notes and Editorial Reviews

The public career of the young German pianist Lars Vogt began after his second place prize in the 1990 Leeds Competition, where he performed with Simon Rattle. In 1992, they recorded the Grieg and Schumann concertos reissued here... [T]hese are good, brisk but nuanced performances by a talented pianist who never gives way to interpretive excesses. The oft-abused Grieg in particular is played in a style that seems at times restrained—and at others playful—which many listeners will find refreshing. The orchestral playing is detailed, and effective—and it echoes Vogt’s occasional serenity. Moreover, the sound of both piano and orchestra on Schumann and Grieg is rendered beautifully.
