Notes and Editorial Reviews

Not Davis’s normal repertoire, but he conducts a lively, detailed, idiomatic performance of this masterpiece, and has strong soloists. Carreras was then at his peak, and Ricciarelli is an affecting Mimì.

Ashley Putnam as Musetta April 7, 2012 By Allan Pearson (Santa Fe, NM) See All My Reviews "I bought/rebought this recording because I used to own it on vinyl and lost it in storage. In the past, decades ago, I reviewed and interviewed Ashley Putnam often at the Santa Fe Opera and wanted to have a documentation of her singing voice; and for some reason she does not have many cds to her credit; Musgrave's "Mary, Queen of Scots" is another example I used to possess and no longer do. Thus, I am happy to have this recording again. I also met and interviewed Hakan H. in Santa Fe, when he debuted here as Figaro ("Barbiere"), so this recording possesses a personal double whammy for me." Report Abuse
