Christoph von Dohnányi comes by his affinity for Hungarian music naturally enough as the grandson of composer Ernst von Dohnányi (who, incidentally, signed Bartók’s diploma,) and his solid, weighty account of the Concerto for Orchestra has plenty of undertow. While the Introduction and Game of Pairs come off sounding a bit deliberate, there is still plenty of energy and focus to the reading.
