Honest, straight-forward Uncle Bruno May 21, 2013 By Henry Raymont (Washington, DC) See All My Reviews "Though I had vowed to write no further reviews, there is nothing I would not do in recognition of the pleasure I and some of my friends have derived from imitating Bruno Walter's German-accented admonitions to the Columbia Orchestra recorded rehearsal of Mozart's Linz symphony. That said, he and George Szell rank almost alongside my two favorites of the German-Austrian repertory--Erich Kleiber and his son, Carlos. I had the good fortune as a cub UP reporter of attending Kleiber pere's rehearsals at the Teatro Colon of Buenos Aires--with Carlos and his sister sitting next to me...... They included the entire Ring, Marriage of Figaro, Wozzek and an unforgettable staged performance of Hoenneger's Jean d'Arc au Boucher with a stellar Franco/Argentine cast. I would also recommend to your readers Walter's recordings of Don Carlos and several other Verdi operas--as well as his classic Don Giovanni and The Marriage of Figaro Basso di Cornetto" Report Abuse
