"Szeryng and Haebler excel in the lyrical sonatas: Opus 30 #1 is particularly beautiful and well-paced: the slow movement is rapt, and the last movement's variations are well-paced, with the right combination of songfulness and tension. Szeryng and Haebeler do well with the drama and wit in the other two sonatas in this opus. The only place where more drive is in order is the final movement of the Kreutzer. This account is more sedate than more recent accounts from Faust/Melnikov and Capucon/Braley. If you like a lyrical approach to these sonatas, this set is definitely worth hearing (and owning)."
