Notes and Editorial Reviews

Kovacevich is unsurpassed as an interpreter of this most magnificent of concertos [the Emperor]. His superb account for Philips has set a model for everyone...and, remains the strongest recommendation very well transferred.

reviewing the Emperor Concerto

When Hermann Krebbers made this recording he was Konzertmeister of the Concertgebouw Orchestra and it is reasonable to guess that Phonogram and Haitink made it because they realized the exceptional quality of the leader of Haitink's orchestra. The record was subsequently issued on the Philips medium-priced Universo label, and in the event it was extremely well received by critics

Krebbers's fine performance shows great musicianship, all based on an impeccable technical skill—not a note is hesitantly placed. As both soloist and orchestra sound forward, the balance is good.
