Disc 5 of this set is a bonus disc titled "Serebrier on Stokowski."


Serebrier worked with Stokowski himself, but then so did a lot of conductors. Many have made discs of Stokowski transcriptions, but none approach Serebrier in both fidelity to the color and sensuality of the arrangements as well as a personal ability to inject life into the music. One aspect of Stokowski’s “magic” was his ability to make even second-tier (or worse!) orchestras sound, if maybe not world class, then exactly as he wanted them to. The Bournemouth Symphony is not a second-class group. It plays beautifully, but even so the richness of texture that Serebrier gets the strings to produce is pretty Read more amazing, and just what Stoki ordered. If you missed these discs the first time around, don’t by any means fail to take advantage now.
