Notes and Editorial Reviews
If you still lack a Mahler One in your collection and spectacular, state-of-the-art sound at bargain price is a priority, then look no further. Performance-wise, all the extremes are here, along with a fair amount of character – although some of the more withdrawn playing (certainly pp to ppp) needs a little more intensity behind it, and Simonov’s sprints to the ends of the first, second and fourth movements can be bullish. Otherwise, a bright-eyed pleasure to sit through.
