Notes and Editorial Reviews

The disc clearly highlights how the timeless yet modern styles of Górecki, Pärt and Tavener compliment ancient church music, sung by the outstanding Cambridge King's College Choir led by Stephen Cleobury. Expressive plainchant settings of "Ave Maris Stella" and "Alma Redemptoris Mater" followed by intensely beautiful "Totus tuus" of Górecki, bring to mind an old tradition in sacred music from the days when renaissance composers would base their then modern polyphonic settings of the Mass on a plainchant cantus firmus.
