Notes and Editorial Reviews

Deutsche Grammophon highlights Placido Domingo's 70th birthday with the complete opera recording of Fedora. Angela Gheorghiu, in the title role of a Russian princess who believes she has lost her noble fiancé to an anarchist-assassin against whom she swears revenge, sings with finesse and deep feeling. The fiery Gheorghiu is utterly convincing as she falls in love with Loris--sung by Domingo--who, she discovers, murdered her fiancé not for political reasons but because he was having an affair with his now deceased wife.

A strong supporting cast is led with deep sympathy for Giordano's achievement by conductor Alberto Veronesi.
