Notes and Editorial Reviews

"Too long neglected on disc, (his excellent Nielsen symphonies now also Regis) Ole Schmidt and Royal Philharmonic, with ideal couplings, offers an outstanding version of the Second Symphony…beautifully played and recorded in vivid, open sound, one of the very finest at any price." -- Penguin Guide, 3 stars "Too long neglected on disc, (his excellent Nielsen symphonies now also Regis) Ole Schmidt and Royal Philharmonic, with ideal couplings, offers an outstanding version of the Second Symphony…beautifully played and recorded in vivid, open sound, one of the very finest at any price." -- Penguin Guide, 3 stars Read less

Familiar Works Brilliantly Performed August 26, 2014 By Henry S. (Springfield, VA) See All My Reviews "If you have not yet experienced the exuberant nationalism and brilliant orchestration which characterizes Alexander Borodin's orchestral works, this outstanding recording would be a great place to start. On the other hand, if you do know Borodin and yet would be interested in a bargain priced CD of some of his most popular orchestral compositions, conductor Ole Schmidt and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra have a real treat in store for you! Symphony # 2, In the Steppes of Central Asia, and excerpts from Prince Igor are presented in the RPO's usual glowing, exciting sound. This is a disk to treasure, as it is simply superb. Highly recommended." Report Abuse
Excellent Borodin Collection March 13, 2014 By Stephen W. Rutledge (Lake Bluff, IL) See All My Reviews "Excellent recording. The selections were uniformly interesting and well performed. I got this CD to familiarize myself with the music of Borodin prior to seeing the Met HD Live production of "Prince Igor" recently, and it prepared me well for the music of the opera." Report Abuse
