Stunning ! December 31, 2015 By Joseph Erdeljac (West Chester, PA) See All My Reviews "Not being familiar with this Verdi little known opera I did not know what to expect. I was blown away by this powerful performance recorded live in Frankfurt in 1971. The cast are all in top vocal condition and sing their respective roles with great expression and vigor. This being Verdi's twelfth opera out of 27 written in 1848 it is still in the early style which he later outgrew but returned to with Il Trovatore. The set musical pieces are not only beautiful in turn but also extremely exciting and expertly sung. The tenor role is reminiscent of Manrico in Il Trovatore with a cabaletta to match. All roles are in the competent hands of and there is no a dull moment as is attested to by the excitement of the audience. The sound is excellent for a live performance and everything is very present. It makes me wonder why this gem fell out of favor. Do not miss this performance." Report Abuse
