Late but enjoyable Di Stefano September 12, 2012 By Joseph Woodland (Olympia, WA) See All My Reviews "This recording was made in the early 1960's. Di Stefano's voice had suffered some diminution in quality, owing to his singing technique and, perhaps, an inappropriate repertoire. Having said that, this has always been one of my favorite recordings, because what Di Stefano did well, he always did well. I would draw the listener's attention to the Otello excerpts, which at this stage lie well on the tenor's voice, and draw from him dignified, passionate performances. Other highlights include the arias from Maristella (warm and charming) and the passionate intensity of the arias from Il Calzare D'argento, and La Fanciulla Del West. I always look forward to hearing Di Stefano, here, there, and everywhere. The recorded sound is warm and wide ranging, and the orchestral playing under Bartoletti unobtrusively first rate."
