Time is of the essence November 3, 2013 By Albert Melcher (Aurora, CO) See All My Reviews "There is a most unfortunate propensity at the present for performing music at the fastest possible pace. This recording falls prey to that phenomenon. Presto becomes prestissimo. Just because very athletically-talented musicians CAN play with celerity and alacrity does not mean that they SHOULD play in that manner. Musicality, expression, subtlety, sonority vanish in such performances. Just a few ticks on the metronome make an enormous difference in musical quality. Time is of the essence. (Overly slow timing, such as changing an "adagio" into an "a-dirge-io" is another cardinal sin.) This performance goes on my "Do not buy or endorse list" as an unpleasant listening experience."
