Notes and Editorial Reviews

Giuseppe Tartini, born in 1692 in what today is Slovenia, ranks among the most famous of late-Baroque composers. A colourful figure and the subject of various scandals during his lifetime, Tartini is described by his contemporaries as not so much playing his violin as making his instrument sing. Over 100 of his violin sonatas survive, many in the manuscript collection of St. Anthony’s Basilica in Padua. These accomplished performances by Giovanni Guglielmo and Alberto Martini include lesser-known and rarely recorded repertoire. This release is a must-buy for both Baroque and violin enthusiasts.
