Period Instrument Stravinsky February 10, 2015 By J. MacElderry (Moorestown, NJ) See All My Reviews "This CD recreates the original performance version of The Rite of Spring, using instruments appropriate to the period and using the 1913 score. They had to get special permission from the publishers, since only the 1967 edition, which contains a number of revisions, is authorized for public performance. The preferred 1911 version of Petrouchka is used. The Rite is especially revelatory, in both the sound and texture of the performance, which illuminates the sheer ferocity of the work. Orchestral performance and sound quality are superb." Report Abuse
