Notes and Editorial Reviews

A collection of Richard Strauss' three greatest tone poems, vividly brought to life by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Sir Charles Mackerras. 'Zarathustra' is the best known, thanks to its use in '2001: A Space Odyssey,' but the 'Don Juan' and 'Till Eulenspiegel' are a delight to all listeners. An excellent disc, in some ways a 'best of' compilation. With the recent passing of Sir Charles Mackerras we can now look back at his illustrious career and see that he was a conductor second to none. His recordings were magnificent and are to be cherished as his continuing legacy.
