Jazzy, Vivacious, thought-provoking May 8, 2013 By James Carleton (Port Hueneme, CA) See All My Reviews "It was a great loss to music when the Argo label was bought out and then destroyed. Arkiv has done quite a service by bringing back many of the CDs. This is one of the more unusual of them, in that much of the material stems from incidents in Schoenfield's life, and almost all of it has a jazz-inflected quality, whether Tin Pan Alley, old-time musical theatre or the 'natural jazz' of Jewish music-making. This is a fun album, if one wishes not to think about the inspirations, but when one has a mind, there is much interesting philosophical musing here. The performers - soloists, orchestra and conductor - all play with a verve and introspection that suits the music perfectly. Well worth adding to your collection." Report Abuse
