Vintage Rossini February 26, 2014 By James M. (Moorestown, NJ) See All My Reviews "This work is best classified as an opera semiseria, mixing both comic and serious elements. The music is classic Rossini, and this recording uses the new critical edition, much needed for this work. The singers are first rate, Florez being the premier Rossini tenor of our time. The production is traditional without being at all dull. Highly recommended." Report Abuse
Matilda di Shabran: a name not well known-  November 2, 2013 By richard  m. (Kalispell, MT) See All My Reviews "I took a chance or rather leap of faith given the cast. This is perhaps the silliest opera i can think of. If you ignore the text however you are in for a treat for not only is Florez as good as expected but the ensemble of voices blend together exceptionally well-- there are many duos, trios, quartets etc throughout the opera- and much enjoyable comedy, more like a well done G&S production than anything else. I recommend buying it." Report Abuse
