Notes and Editorial Reviews
SHANGHAI STORY is a dazzling dance drama that tells the story of China's most legendary artist through dance and music. Set in pre-war China when Shanghai was one of the most glamorous cities in the world, SHANGHAI STORY dazzles its audience with grand chreography and a soundtrack inspired by the greatest American musicals of the past century. The show is set to an original soundtrack by Zhen Bing, reminiscent of the music of Duke Ellington, Aaron Copland and Astor Piazzolla.
Using only music and dance movement to tell the tale, SHANGHAI STORY presents us with the true story of a country girl who dreamed of becoming a star. She finds love and conquers the hearts of millions of fans through her success on the stage and in films
only to pay dearly for her success, with a broken heart.
SHANGHAI STORY was choreographed by Chen Weiya, who brought us the opening and closing ceremonies of the BEIJING 2008 OLYMPICS. It is performed by one of China's premiere dance companies: THE EAST SHANGHAI DANCE OPERA COMPANY.
