Unusual new version of the EigthAugust 26, 2013By Gail M. (Goleta, CA)See All My Reviews"This is a fine performance in excellent sound of Bruckner's 8th Symphony,in a version made up of revisions of each of the movements by the composer in the year 1888. The original score was finished in Fall 1887, and the most commonly played version is the 1890 revision. This version retains many brief embellishments and variations retained from the original score and later omitted, although all the themes and general development remain in the 1890 edition. This new version has the loud ending of the first movement, and the end of the finale is different from others I had heard. The short piece by Otto Kitzler and his son was arranged for orchestra by Gerd Schaller, the conductor of this concert. It is a tribute to Bruckner originally prepared in 1906. In the general style of Bruckner's late works, it is enjoyable to hear."Report Abuse
