Notes and Editorial Reviews

The harp was Norah Amsellemís first instrument of choice, which was not particularly surprising given the Celtic origins of her Irish mother. Her dream as a student at the National Conservatory in Boulogne was to attend a school in Paris. The solution she came up with was to join Maitrise de Radio France (a special school with emphasis on vocal training and choral concerts for children between the ages of 9 and 14). Thus she had the chance in Paris to split her time between school and performing on stage with renowned stars. Her time at the Maitrise was marked above all by Michel Piquemal, who endowed her with a taste for music. He also recommended that she go and study with Lorraine Nubar, voice teacher at the Juilliard School in New York, Read more with whom she continues to work to this day. At 19, she won the Metropolitan Opera Auditions and was invited to participate in their program for young artists ñ one of the few foreign students to be accepted. Europeís major opera houses have engaged her ñ La Scala, Vienna, Berlin and Covent Garden. Dalton Baldwin says: ìItís very rare to meet someone with such talent and genius! She embodies the ideal combination of technique and musicality. Since the age of 14, Gerard Souzay and I have witnessed the birth of a truly unique voice.î Read less
