"Piotr Beczala was a perfect duke, singing with style and the smiling assurance of a guy who knows he looks good in a dinner jacket." (Bloomberg.com)

"Piotr Beczala as the Duke was a breezy, sleazy leader of the Rat Pack, a Frank Sinatra-type lurching from bender to hookup. His arias were winning and convincing."(Washington Times)

[Piotr Beczala is] one of today's most exciting young singers...Tall, trim and handsome, with a Hollywood smile, he also emits some of the most beautiful sounds to be heard on the current opera stage." (Opera News)

Brilliant April 14, 2013 By Jan Venter (Johannesburg, gauteng) See All My Reviews "I saw this production in Cape Town over the Easter Break,I was totally knocked out!!!It was in the Cinema Nouveau.Rigoletto has never been my favourite opera as I find the story so evil.Dark and really nasty. But this production and performance has taken it out of the darkness...the production having been set in the early sixties has given it a new life , complete with Las Vegas type setting, neon lights and all(even Monroe).Every one of the artists has something special to offer,Damrau with her innocence even when singing on her back is superb her portrayal as a young girl smitten with total passion for the man that took and dropped her like a handsome predator...Beczala (Rock Hudson resemblance) is a sexy suave and confident seducer....he made me think of so many stars that did just that...having just read Ava Gardners biography made me think of him when watching the show..him being Sinatra!!!Wonderful singing such, confidence and a good mover also..Lucic could have had a little more emotion and anger but what a voice, rich and beautiful.Sparafucile was the cherry of the performance with Johnny Depp looks and a sinister performance had the ladies and some men in the audience squirming with lust!!!Great singing and acting!!Who says opera cannot have sex appeal..this production has it all.Maddalena tall and lithe burned the screen with her sexuality...some saucy moments.I do not own this dvd yet....but will invest in it, its worth it....Having seen it in a movie house I want it in my house...."
