Notes and Editorial Reviews

Reiner and Chicago capture the passion and nobility of this popular symphony and make it seem newly-minted. In this new DSD remastering, the strings soar, the brasses blaze with brilliance, and the famous lyrical English horn solo ("Goin' Home") will linger long in memory.

This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.

Fritz's ''New World '' from Chicago August 10, 2016 By owen ryan (lakewood, CA) See All My Reviews "After reviewing a couple of newly purchased Dvorak Ninths I decided to give a listen to a couple of New Worlds that I've had for some time. Since first becoming serious about classical music, RCA's Living Stereo discs captured my audiophile fancy. Reiner's version of Dvorak's Ninth doesn't seem to be a top choice of some professional critics. But I am going to adopt Alex Russell's statement on MusicWeb Int. as my own: ''One of the finest conducted and played accounts of this popular and over played score in the current catalog.'' Despite being almost 60 years old, this recording sounds pretty good. I compared this SACD remastering to a JVC (red book) remaster from 1991 and found the JVC to be more full bodied. The SACD, however, has more punch and clarity. This performance and recording will remain as one of my favorites so I have no hesitation in recommending it." Report Abuse
