Notes and Editorial Reviews

This fascinating collection of pieces, many of which are world premiere recordings, receive vibrant and definitive performances by Nanette Kaplan Solomon. 'In Hommage of...' is a colorful work that will remind the listener of the melodic richness of Chopin, the spiky dissonances of Hindemith and the thick-textured harmonies of Scriabin.
'Fantasy quasi Theme and Variations' is a brilliant work inspired by Aaron Copland's Piano Variations. Sheila Silver transforms the angular four-note motive at the heart of Copland's composition and, to quote Silver, spins it into a "soft and voluptuous" work of rhapsodic dimensions. 'Pianismus' is a lovely work that recalls early Debussy, while 'Sunburst' sounds like a lost work by Chopin. No mere
Read more imitator, this is a work of brilliant invention, its ideas flowing out of the explosive theme that opens the piece.
'Rebecca's Suite' is a sparkling virtuoso work that evokes Liszt; 'Three Preludes' has echoes of Russian music, most notably Khachaturian and Prokoviev. And last but not least, Emma Lou Diemer's Fantasy for Piano is a florid work full of cascading runs requiring the dexterity of a virtuoso, an element that Solomon provides with ease in this captivating work.
