Especially beautiful February 7, 2013 By Douglas Walker (Ottawa, ON) See All My Reviews "Ok, I'm not a reviewer, but when younger played the Tchaikovsky 5th with a local large orchestra as a flutist, never forgot the melodies - it is the quinessential Russian piece for me. Another huge favourite is Marche Slave, which can lift spirits in so many ways in just 9 minutes. Now I enjoy these recordings - with fine headphones you can feel like you are in a box seat immersed in fantastic playing. Nothing compares to these pieces and it may be this is the best mp3 version of them. The oboe player stuns with the beauty of playing in the 2nd movement, the french horn is amazing and the strings sound perfect to these ears. Perhaps there is a Mravinksy version of the 5th that equals this (I had a record album years ago) but don't pass up this recording for any reason. Very special" Report Abuse
