Notes and Editorial Reviews

Extracts from Judith triumphans RV 644, L'Olimpiade RV 725, Orlando finto pazzo RV 727, La verità in cimento RV 739

Long after the unexpected rediscovery of his works in the early 20th century, Vivaldi was still both one of the most famous of all composers, taken up by an enthusiastic public immediately attracted be a few concertos, but also paradoxically one of the least known, precisely because his immense output was reduced to a handful of "hits", first and foremost the Four Seasons.
We had to wait until the very end of the 20th century, in particular, to get a proper chance to hear his operas, even though these are incredibly rich pieces, rarely equalled for dramatic intensity and musical beauty.
Read more And it was 250 years after the performance of his last opera that the Vivaldi Edition made it possible to record such key works as L'Olimpiade, La verità in cimento, Orlando finto pazzo, or the sacred opera Juditha triumphans, with some fifteen more to come in the next few years.
These four masterpieces, whose superb arias have earned them immense success with a growing audience, were an obvious choice for a CD bringing together their finest moments. Especially as the interpretations by Jean-Christophe Spinosi with Ensemble Matheus, Rinaldo Alessandrini with Concerto Italiano, and Alessandro De Marchi with the Academia Montis Regalis, and such fabulous singers as Magdalena Kozenà, Sara Mingardo, Gemma Bertagnolli, Sonia Prina and Philippe Jaroussky, are laready considered benchmark recordings.
