Notes and Editorial Reviews
Born in Bohemia, Antonio Rosetti (1750-1792) was one of the most sought after composers during his lifetime and was put on a par with Haydn and Mozart. During his work at the court of Oettingen-Wallerstein under the auspices of music lover Prince Kraft Ernst, Rosetti developed the court orchestra into one of the best ensembles in Europe within a very short time.
During this time Rosetti also composed a variety of chamber pieces of which the Cologne historical performance ensemble known as "Compagnia di Punto" has recorded five works of impressive quality. Aside from the more famous Quintet in F Major, Murray catalog B6, published in a first edition of arrangements by Giovanni Punto, the CD also includes two first
recordings; the Quartet in G Major, Murray D16 and the Sextet in E flat major, Murray B26. The ensemble also performs the Sextet in D Major, Murray B24 and a Nocturne in E flat major, Murray B27. - Sony Deutschland Read less
