| I was enthusiastic about this release when it appeared last year—both about the intellectual and stylistic range of the music and about Borac’s responsive performances. Those who were slow to pick it up now have the option of buying it on SACD. The differences are not extreme, but readily apparent—although perhaps not that easy to choose between. The multichannel version, as expected, gives a more striking sense of acoustical space—but I can imagine readers, especially those who prefer recordings to concerts, who might want to opt for the less resonant CD version (or the very similar sounding two-channel area of the SACD), which offers slightly greater textual clarity. In either format, though, this is a first-rate account of music that deserves to be better known. Strongly recommended. - Peter J. Rabinowitz, FANFARE | |||||
