At the age of eighteen, Jean-Guihen Queyras won the prize as the most promising young musician in the Mstislav Rostropovich Competition. In the same year, he also took third prize in the Munich International Competition, and has been hailed as "One of the most brilliant French cellists of his generation" (Le Monde de la Musique).
