Notes and Editorial Reviews

"Leonard Bernstein's DG Beethoven cycle has withstood the test of time and remains one of the finest sets available...newcomers to this cycle have a treat in store, for these are no less than good performances, and some of them (Nos. 3, 4, 6, 7, and 9) rank with the best available. Even Bernstein's No. 5, which always came in for criticism as a result of its point-making in the first movement, sounds simply characterful at this late date (though I may be alone in preferring his New York recording of this work for the clarity of its bass lines). There have been more than a few excellent cycles appearing since this one, including Barenboim, Wand, and the terrific new Norrington on Hänssler, but when all is said and done you simply can't go Read more wrong with this set."
