Notes and Editorial Reviews
Includes the ballets Tzigane, Andante from Divertimento no. 15, The Four Temperaments, Selections from Jewels, and Stravinsky Violin Concerto.
"Many of George Balanchine's greatest works, and greatest dancers, especially before the 1970's, remain unavailable on video unless you seek them out on grainy work tapes in libraries. But in 1977, for public television, Balanchine did four programs, now available on two DVD's, "Choreography by Balanchine." The television settings are hackneyed, the lighting is overly bright, and some of the ballets are cruelly edited. Still, these are mostly masterpieces with dancers under Balanchine's direct supervision. Included are the complete "Four Temperaments,"
"Stravinsky Violin Concerto" and "Prodigal Son," plus eight shorter ballets or excerpts." - NEW YORK TIMES
