RACHMANINOV : BYRON JANIS May 13, 2012 By Christopher Miles (WAIHI, Hauraki) See All My Reviews "RACHMANINOV
For these recordings, Byron Janis trains his superb technique upon the written-notes and certainly, in both interpretations, he realises the musical intentions of Rachmaninov.
Byron Janis, (originally Yankilevich) was a legendary pianist of Russian / Polish / Jewish ancestry,

Like and typical of RCA Victor “Living Stereo” recordings, this one is quite scintillating.
Given this modus operandi, with superb orchestral accompaniment, a la Fritz Reiner and Charles Munch, this CD is quite outstanding.

Byron Janis rises to the challenges – an unassailable degree of virtuosity – set by Rachmaninov.
The pianism is absolutely outstanding.

This is a fine CD and ought and deserves to be in anybody’s library of recorded music.
In the two works, “music” comes to the fore.

HiFi System:- A complete Rega “Apollo / Mira / RS5” system.
