Classical guitar would have been mired in anonymity if it weren't for Andrés Segovia putting it on the cultural map. There were no concert promoters interested in backing a guitarist; there was barely a canon of material before he started arranging for guitar. THE LEGENDARY SEGOVIA consists of some of the earliest recordings of Segovia's career, dating between 1927 and 1939. While five of the pieces are specially arranged, the majority of these pieces were written specifically for guitar, letting Segovia's impeccable talent shine. Digitally remastered from the original recordings, THE LEGENDARY SEGOVIA brings a new warmth to the performances. The nylon-stringed guitar does not project sound the way a piano or violin does; quality recordings such as this let the listener enjoy all the subtleties of the instrument's most lasting master. Includes gigue(s) by Johann Jacob Froberger. Soloist: Andrés Segovia. Includes prelude(s) by Federico Moreno Torroba. Soloist: Andrés Segovia. Includes serenade(s) by Joaquin Malats. Soloist: Andrés Segovia. |
